The Story of Our 2020 at Innovative Party Planners
This year was certainly one for the ages. Some members of our team have been in this industry for well over twenty years, but we’ve never witnessed anything quite like 2020! Travel with us through the unforgettable journey.
Kicking the Year Off
The start of our year was relatively normal in that it was very BUSY and filled with tons of memorable events. We started out the year by ringing in the new decade and celebrating, “The Year of the Optometrist.” (Get it??)
The following weeks were spent preparing for and hosting various birthday parties, bridal showers and anniversary celebrations. At the end of February, we partnered with the Howard County Library System to transform an active community library into a lively pirate ship party. This fundraising event was special to us at the time, but the fact that it was our final large celebration of the year made it extra memorable to us down the road.
Plot Twist!
The second quarter of the year was unique in that everything we had previously scheduled for 2020 had to be postponed or cancelled. Everything! Naturally, holding conventional parties during an ongoing pandemic was out of the question. Completely abandoning celebrating altogether was equally out of the question, so we had to go back to the drawing board. We concluded that the safest way to keep the party going in 2020 was to bring our celebrations to the virtual realm.
We’ll be the first to admit that virtual events weren’t one of our main staples before 2020, but we still wanted to offer the unforgettable party experiences that we are used to providing. To make it possible, our own Heidi Hiller took the time to go back to school and earn a certificate in Virtual Event Management. Afterward, we were able to start holding engaging virtual events in June!
Finishing Strong
By the time the second half of the year rolled around, we were fully retooled and preparing a variety of virtual events including:
· Weddings
· Cooking demos
· Bridal showers
· Birthday parties
· Art classes
· High holiday services
The success of the party planning industry as a whole is very important to us, so we made sure to include it in our scope for the year. We spent time writing articles for several publications and participated in podcast interviews with industry experts when time allowed.
We also managed to launch our Mitzvah Pros website in an effort to provide support and community for Mitzvah Pros across the world!
We Survived 2020!
We’re so glad we’ve been able to publish this walk-through memory lane, because it means that Innovative Party Planners survived 2020! Before the shutdown, we hosted about 10 celebrations, and we’re so happy we were able to keep that momentum up later into the year. This year, we learned why celebrating is so important and it made for some of the most memorable events we’ve ever been part of. Here’s to a fantastic 2021!
