Creating an Engaging and Well-Defined Space
How many times have you attended a gala, conference or luncheon only to walk into a room and see rows of round tables, all set exactly the same? Even if the tables are numbered with guidance as to where you should sit, you might feel overwhelmed and unsure of where you should be headed. Some people will linger in the back hoping to see someone that they know, while others will find themselves stranded with strangers. At Innovative Party Planners, we refer to this as a ‘Sea of Rounds’.
The Room You Want to Create
Now, imagine walking into the same room, but it is now filled with an eclectic and engaging variety of table shapes, finishes, chairs, sofas and lounge areas. You will be instantly drawn into the room and explore the guest seating options. Because a space like this is so flexible, you can use numerous methods to group your guests. 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and even 18-seat areas can all be easily arranged, and we can coordinate complementary linens or tables with different finishes like metal, wood or glass. At Innovative Party Planners, we never want you to just view a venue as a square space with four white walls.
Lounge Seating
Lounge seating has been quite popular over the past decade with our Bar and Bat Mitzvah and social clients, and we are now seeing it become more popular in corporate events. Lounge seating is an effective way to create a more relaxed vibe for guests looking to chat and enjoy while watching the event. These vignettes are set up in the venue among the tables and chairs.
Pipe and Draping
You might be familiar with the term “pipe and drape,” and it refers to using aluminum or steel pipes and fixed or adjusted telescoping vertical uprights and horizontals to support drape panels. Pipe and draping is often used as a backdrop behind a feature area or as a method to camouflage an unattractive space. We also utilize pipe and draping to section off areas within a larger space or enhance an area while defining the space. Draping comes in a broad spectrum of fabrics, colors and textures.
Lighting
Lighting also plays a critical role in defining spaces and setting the mood in an event space. Great lighting will direct your guests’ attention to your beautiful floral centerpieces, or the auction tables set up along a wall. Lighting can also project images and logos on the walls, floors and ceilings of your venue. If you want to let your imagination run wild, you can fill a darkened room with twinkling stars or romantic swirling snow. Lighting quickly sets the atmosphere and adds drama.
