On June 10th, Governor Larry Hogan issued an executive order as a continuation of Maryland’s Roadmap to Recovery. You can check out this handy FAQ document produced by the state to catch up on all the latest details. Ultimately, the most significant update is the removal of the 10-person limit on social gatherings. Since we can now gather outdoors in groups over 10, we wanted to outline our favorite ways to celebrate right now! These ideas are festive, low risk, and align with our current favorite social media trend: #dontpostponecelebrate.

Micro Weddings and Micro Mitzvahs

Weddings and bar/bat mitzvah celebrations are both very special and memorable events. Even throughout this time of change, there is no reason why that shouldn’t remain true. Thus far, we have had tremendous success with socially distanced seating arrangements that keep all guests 6 feet apart. These guidelines have allowed party planners to get creative with our setups and implement new ideas like circular seating setups and bumper tables for cocktail hour. While ceremonies may be small for the foreseeable future, we’ve seen firsthand that they can still be mighty and filled with positive energy.

Drive by Parades and Events

Drive by parades are a great way to celebrate big days from the comfort of the honoree’s own lawn. There are so many ways to make this type of event special. A lawn decorated with yard signs and balloons is sure to set the scene for the festivities ahead. Once the party begins, guests can show up with their cars paired with signs, messages and music! Alternatively, many hosts have elected to hire a DJ to fill the air for their celebrations.

While this isn’t exactly a conventional party, there is still so much room for memorable moments. To add to the fun, many hosts have also implemented photo booth stops for photographers and videographers to capture the joy and excitement of the day.

Drive in Events

Sometimes looking back to the past can be a great source of inspiration. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, several production companies are doing just that and creating plans for extravagant drive in movie theaters. This way, patrons can watch all the latest films from the safety of their own vehicles. This exact philosophy can be applied for celebrations as well!  Our own Heidi Hiller wrote a blog for EventPlanner outlining some of her original ideas on the subject. Whether it’s a bar/bat mitzvah celebration, quinceañera, anniversary celebration or even a wedding, a drive in event has the potential to be the perfect party setting.
