We recognize that making any assumptions about your event can lead to massive stress and errors on the day of. In fact, a miniature traffic cone sits on our desks that says “Assumption Is the Mother of All Screw-Ups!” Don’t assume, ask your questions and get the answers. 

No Assumptions in Party Planning 

Will your caterer put out your centerpieces? They are putting on the linens and silverware, can’t they put out my centerpieces at the same time?  Never assume. Failing to ask a single question or making a single assumption could mean missing out on something that was important to you or creating a cascading series of problems. One of the most common situations people encounter when DIY-ing in the party planning process is failing to know the questions that need to be asked. Don’t assume everyone is going to help you put your plan together.

Assumptions Are More Common Than You Think

Some of the most common assumptions we encounter that can interfere with a seamless party experience include:

•          Wanting to utilize confetti or balloons without inquiring as to whether or not the venue has rules regarding its usage. 

•          Assuming a venue will have easels, whiteboards or anything else available for use

•          Thinking the caterers will be able to help you with setting up, taking things down or other parts of the event 

•          Presuming there will be enough outlets available for lighting, electronics or food service equipment

•          Assuming a venue is already booked or inaccessible

As you can tell through the last example, assumptions don’t always end poorly! Some clients, particularly those who are setting things up last-minute, assume that a venue or vendor will be unavailable. Many times, they are surprised to find out that, just by asking for what you want, you can get a positive outcome. Always ask, don’t assume you know what the answer will be.
